KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Uchop Ahmad, who has been holed up in Kuala Selangor during the ongoing Movement Control Order (MCO), has decided to make the best of his time by taking on a different kind of vocation.
The Vokal Bukan Sekadar Rupa Season 2 winner has started selling fresh fish to those in need of food supplies, as well as to earn an honest wage.
In a news report yesterday, the singer said that he obtains fish from the Pasir Penambang jetty in Kuala Selangor, and sells them to customers on a cash-on-delivery basis in the city.
"My friends and I collect the fish from the jetty as early as 3am and then transport them over to KL.
"I buy the fish at a certain amount and then sell them at a reasonable price that will give me some profit after deducting the costs for fuel and toll charges.
"Thankfully, I've garnered good support from buyers. Some are even celebrities like Datuk Hattan, who has used my services for his charity work," he said.
The 36-year-old singer from Kedah added that the idea to sell fish was sparked by a friend after they were looking for something to do while in Kuala Selangor after the MCO came into effect.
"I'm an active motocross rider with team Bencho's Motorsports and at the time, I was at their base in Kuala Selangor.
"Our team of 15 people was stuck and couldn't go anywhere after the MCO, and I was at a loss as to what to do.
"A friend from the team, Naim, suggested doing this and I thought it was a really good idea," he said.
Uchop, whose full name is Mohamad Yusof Ahmad, added that he then started promoting the service through WhatsApp.
"Praise be to God, my efforts have been well received. I didn’t think that I'd get many customers when I first began doing this on March 31.
"A typical day would see me driving to several locations, such as Shah Alam, Sunway, Subang, Ampang, Selayang and Setiawangsa.
"All of the Bencho's Motorsports members are involved in this. We deliver based on orders and follow the procedures that have been determined by the government," he said.
Meanwhile, Uchop has also collaborated with fellow singer Black Hanifah, comedian Achey Bocey and Bencho's Motorsports for a charity project to benefit the needy in Kuala Selangor.
"We will distribute essential goods to 300 villagers from Kampung Permatang tomorrow," he added.
