#Showbiz: Man Raja Lawak inundated with pleas for help

KUALA LUMPUR: Although comedian Man Raja Lawak's mission to help the less fortunate by donating RM50,000 had run its course early this month, he is apparently still receiving a torrent of pleas for assistance.

In a news report yesterday, Man, whose real name is Abd Rahman Kasim, said that he has been receiving numerous private messages (DM) on Instagram as well as WhatsApp from the public.

"Even though I had already announced that the mission to distribute RM50,000 has already been carried out from March 28 to April 2, many people are still messaging me for financial help.

"A lot of them are pushing me to help and what is shocking is that there are some who have asked for large amounts like RM5,000.

"Some have also asked for financial assistance to buy personal items such as laptops, telephones and many others," he said.

Man added that he is well aware that the livelihood and income of some people have been severely affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO).

"But I have helped as much as I could with the amount of money that I contributed. For those who weren't able to receive the help, I hope it's understood that it's not your rezeki.

"As for me, I have carried out my responsibility to help those who have been affected by the Covid-19 outbreak.

"Right now, I have to focus my efforts on others, especially those who are in need of help in the vicinity of where I live," he said.

Elaborating on whether he was traumatised by the deluge of messages, Man said that he had so far tried his best to reply in a courteous and sensible manner.

"If they still don't get it then I don't know what else to say. The mission to contribute help had already been carried out in the span of four days.

"About 70 individuals and families, as well as associations and fellow artistes had received help from the initiative," he said.

Prior to this, Man had posted his intention on Instagram to donate RM50,000, which was part of his cash prize for winning the Maharaja Lawak Mega 2019 (MLM 2019) reality TV competition, to those who were affected badly by the MCO.

During MLM 2019, Man, who was part of the comic group Puteh with Mamak and Ali, emerged as champions and received a cash prize of RM500,000 collectively in addition to a trophy.
