KUALA LUMPUR: Singer-actress Elyana Emrizal, who suffers from stage four lymphoma — a type of blood cancer — has discontinued chemotherapy, saying that hospitals should serve "more needy patients".
Elyana, 32, said in a news report yesterday that she wanted to "make way" for patients who needed the hospital facilities more than she did.
"Malaysians are fighting Covid-19, and hospitals should be reserved for those who truly need treatment right now.
"As for me I've had the Big C for nine years now, but I'm coping well, God willing."
Elyana last underwent treatment in hospital in early 2019.
"I had emergency radiotherapy because the cancer cells affected my back and nervous system, and I nearly became paralysed.
"After that, doctors advised me to undergo chemotherapy, but I chose to delay treatment as I had to focus on my children who are growing up," she said.
Elyana added that she is fasting during Ramadan without much difficulty, despite her condition.
"I'm also managing my online food business this Ramadan," said Elyana.
Elyana has gone through seven chemotherapy sessions and a radiotherapy session since 2014.
The singer, known for her songs Tak Tercapai Akalmu and Diriku Tapak Sulaiman, revealed that she had cancer after she participated in reality show Gegar Vaganza in November 2017.
