#Showbiz: 'My family became a problem, borrowing from Sugu' – Pavithra

KUALA LUMPUR: YouTube cooking sensation S. Pavithra admitted that family problems, money and media interference had led to her husband's arrest for allegedly hitting her.

In a recent clip on her YouTube channel, the 28-year-old housewife from Sungai Siput, Perak confessed that her husband M. Sugu got drunk during the alleged "incident" which led to his recent arrest.

However, she strongly denied that 29-year-old Sugu was a drunkard, and urged fans to continue supporting their YouTube channel which had more than 786,000 subscribers.

She said: "Sugu went to the hospital on the day of the incident because my own family had become a problem, and it was all due to money.

"My family, who has never helped me since I married Sugu seven years ago, suddenly appeared in my life after I had become successful and started borrowing money from him. This caused a lot of problems."

Pavithra added that irresponsible reporting had also caused disruption to their lives in the last three months.

"After we became media sensations, we lost a lot of privacy and found it difficult to produce more cooking videos," she said.

She also paid tribute to Sugu as the person who was instrumental in making her a YouTube star.

"Without Sugu, our channel would not have gained that many subscribers. Sugu and I were cooking together from the very beginning. I hope you will continue supporting us," she said.

On July 21, former plantation worker Sugu was arrested and charged in the Ipoh Sessions Court with unlawful possession of a sickle and hitting his wife. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.

Pavithra however said that she had forgiven her husband and wanted to move forward.

Last Tuesday, the couple reemerged on their channel with a guide to cooking mutton dalca, and their video garnered over 100,000 followers in three hours. Their unheralded return was warmly greeted by delighted fans.
