KUALA LUMPUR: BlackPink may be hugely popular around the region, but its youngest member has landed in the bad books of the Chinese government lately.
Lisa Manoban, 24, has just been dropped from the cover of Chinese fashion magazine Bazaar China, for her association with German sportswear brand Adidas.
Korean entertainment portal Koreaboo reported recently that even though Lisa, who hails from Thailand, did not make any political comment which angered Beijing, her association with Adidas was enough to get her axed from Bazaar China.
Lisa and her fellow BlackPink members are international models for Adidas Originals fashion, and the German multinational is part of the Better Cotton Initiative that is boycotting cotton from China's Xinjiang Autonomous Region, where forced labour has allegedly been used.
Other brands in the campaign include Nike and H&M.
Koreaboo reported that Lisa recently gained greater popularity in China after appearing as a dance mentor in the Chinese reality show Youth With You.
Fans have praised her leadership qualities and strict, no-nonsense teaching style.
Neither Bazaar China nor BlackPink's management have issued statements on Lisa's removal from the magazine cover.
