#Showbiz: Director Michael Ang undergoes eye surgery for glaucoma

KUALA LUMPUR: Award-winning director Michael Ang is lucky to have undergone eye surgery to nip glaucoma in the bud.

The 45-year-old director of TV dramas as Suri Hati Mr Pilot and Dia Semanis Honey said that he went for an eye surgery quickly since the disease could cause blindness in the long run.

"I found that I had glaucoma when I went for a medical check-up two years ago. But since I was very busy with work, I only underwent surgery this month," said Ang in a news report today.

Ang had his right eye operated at a hospital in Ara Damansara, Petaling Jaya. He will undergo surgery to his left eye next week.

"Glaucoma is hereditary. I have a cousin who suffers from it, and went blind in one eye," he said.

Ang said that prior to the medical check-up, he suffered from occasional blurred vision, and this affected his work.

"It was like having maggots moving in my eyes. At times I could see clearly, but at other times my vision became blur."

The director advised all Malaysians with eyesight problems to undergo medical check-ups quickly.
