KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran pop singer Jay Jay or Mohd Fauzi Darus is set to undergo heart surgery today.
Nasyid singer Cheb Ali Masrawi said in an Instagram post yesterday that Jay Jay, 66, will undergo a coronary bypass at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Jalan Tun Razak here.
Cheb, who received news of Jay Jay's condition from Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia committee member and veteran singer-actress Rozita Rohaizad, said that he and his wife, singer Azura Aziz visited the former Carefree lead singer at IJN yesterday afternoon.
"Jay Jay was with his family and in good spirits. Let's all pray for the success of his surgery and his speedy recovery," he said.
Cheb also said that Jay Jay did not realise that he was suffering from a heart ailment until recently.
"He had a mild heart attack while travelling on a bus from Singapore to KL recently."
Cheb, who is a committee member of the Association of Music Composers, Performers and Producers of Malaysia (3P) is planning to have a special online prayer session for Jay Jay and other artistes who are facing health problems.
"Please pray for Jay Jay and all artistes who are undergoing treatment. May they all have a speedy recovery," he said.
Jay Jay who was popular in the 1970s and early 1980s is best known for his hit songs Rindu Bayangan and Angan Tak Sudah.
