#Showbiz: 'Foreign animators had strong faith in Mechamato' - Animonsta Studios

KUALA LUMPUR: Superhero pre-teen BoBoiBoy's father Amato is fast coming out of his shadows in his very own animated series Mechamato today.

Mechamato, which chronicles the adventures of Amato and his robot friend MechaBot during his younger days, is popular both locally and internationally, since it is screened in six other countries besides Malaysia.

The man behind Mechamato, Animonsta Studios founder and director Mohd Nizam Abdul Razak said that he and his creative team envisioned Amato and MechaBot as a superhero duo who rode futuristic motorcycles and fought supervillains much larger than themselves.

"We sketched our heroes five years ago, and they looked much simpler than what they turned out to be. And feedback from our animator friends and partners in Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and France was really good," he said in a news report yesterday.

Mohd Nizam added that the foreign animators admitted that Mechamato was an "interesting and original story, which could go far" and put Malaysia on the global animation map.

"We hadn't finalised the drawings, and therefore we didn't quite believe them at first. Now that Mechamato is going places, we want to thank our friends for always having faith in us," said Mohd Nizam.

Mechamato The Animated Series made its television debut last Dec 6 on Cartoon Network.

Screened in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia and New Zealand since that date, it reached South Korea on Dec 11 and will debut in Japan next month.
