KUALA LUMPUR: The pioneer of Japanese art form Butoh in Malaysia, Lee Swee Keong, will be giving a talk on the dance theatre style in an online live stream on Friday.
Titled Episode 3: An insight on the Butoh art form in Malaysia, the hour-long talk represents the third session of Japan Foundation KL's (JFKL) ongoing Talk Series.
Lee has been the artistic director for the Kuala Lumpur Butoh Festival from 2008 to 2019 and of the Nyoba Kan Butoh dance theatre company.
The artiste has been dedicating years to learning and teaching this Japanese art form that has significantly influenced Malaysia's dance scene since the early 1990s.
In Japan, Butoh rose to prominence in the late 1950s and has since come to be known as one of the most important movements in the history of the arts.
It encompasses a diverse range of activities, techniques and motivations for dance, performance, or movement.
The JFKL Talk Series is a programme initiated to reach out to everyone and introduce the culture and heritage of Japan through the lenses of professionals in various fields.
