KUALA LUMPUR: After being admitted to the hospital for more than a month, veteran actress Aripah Damanhuri breathed her last this morning at Kuala Lumpur Hospital. She was 73.
Her son Nurpais Ismail, 42, said that her mother suddenly became unconscious this morning and doctors then confirmed that her heart had stopped functioning.
"She was conscious yesterday, but couldn't speak as doctors had already performed tracheostomy to help with her breathing.
"However, my sister received a call from the hospital this morning, saying that she had lost consciousness and that her heart was no longer functioning," he said in a news report today.
On April 23, Aripah was admitted to the hospital due to lung infection and had to be placed in an induced coma.
Nurpais said his mother's remains would be buried at Raudhatul Sakinah Cemetery in Taman Batu Muda in Gombak, Selangor.
Aripah whose sister is also an actress Normah Damanhuri, began her acting career in 1980.
