#Showbiz: 'Abang Long Fadil 3' to open in cinemas in September

KUALA LUMPUR: After having waited for more than two years, Skop Productions Sdn Bhd is finally ready to screen Syafiq Yusof's film Abang Long Fadil 3 in cinemas this September.

Producer Datuk Yusof Haslam said he was now more confident now to have the film screened after the country had moved into the endemic phase.

He was previously reluctant to release the film earlier despite the cinemas were given the green light to resume operations.

Yusof also said he was thrilled to see the positive development of the endemic phase which had resulted with more films released in the cinemas as well as more people going to cinemas again.

"However, Skop Productions had only received the tentative opening date for Abang Long Fadil 3 (middle of September), but we have no news yet for Polis Evo 3.

"But I'm not in a hurry or pressured to get the screening slot for it, though it'd be good if both films be released this year," he said in a news report today.

In earlier reports, Skop Productions was adamant to wait until the coast was clear to release both films in cinemas, and not pressured to release the films — which had cost his production some RM12 million — via streaming platform or pay-per-view TV channel due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Abang Long Fadil 3 is a sequel of two previous movies starring comedian Zizan Razak released in 2014 and 2017 respectively.

In 2017, Abang Long Fadil 2 raked in RM13 million at the box office after 13 days of screening at 120 cinemas throughout Malaysia as well as in Brunei and Singapore.

On the first day of its screening alone, it clocked in RM700,000 at the box office.
