KUALA LUMPUR: In less than a month of its opening, the movie Sheriff: Narko Integriti, directed by Syafiq Yusof, has already accumulated a total of RM60 million at the box office.
In a news report yesterday, Skop Productions chairman and co-executive producer for the action movie, Datuk Yusof Haslam, said that this was the ultimate reward, especially after everyone involved in its production had worked very hard from the beginning.
"Alhamdulillah, the response we received from local moviegoers has been encouraging, despite it only being screened in less than a month," the 70-year-old producer and veteran actor said.
He added that the positive development had been a relief as local cinemas had been going through a rather tough time, with less audiences recorded.
"But the surprisingly good response is encouraging, especially when the movie will premier in Indonesia on May 22," shared Yusof who is also the director's father.
Sheriff stars Zul Ariffin, Syafiq Kyle, Datuk Aaron Aziz, Azira Shafinaz and Elizabeth Tan.
It tells the story of Sheriff, a police officer from the Integrity Department, who partners with Nazri, a young officer from the Narcotics Department, in order to defeat the drug kingpin Tony Ifrit.
Previously, Mat Kilau, directed by Yusof's other son Syamsul, created history with its total collection of RM97 million at the box office in 2022, making it the highest grossing film in the country's film industry history.
