#Showbiz: Bunkface to rock fans at 15th anniversary concert next month

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular local punk rock band Bunkface will be celebrating its 15th anniversary with a concert at the newly-opened Zepp KL at the Bukit Bintang City Centre here on July 30 and 31.

Dubbed Bunkface! 15 Years Of Korang, the upcoming show will feature band members Sam, Youk, Pa'an and Biak entertaining fans with its brand of alternative rock music.

"Praise be to God, our struggle throughout the 15 years being in this industry has definitely left a mark for punk rock music lovers, and we will continue producing good music till the end," said lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Sam in a recent statement.

Lead guitarist Youk added: "Bunkface! 15 Years Of Korang is a concert to commemorate Bunkface's 15th years of existence since it was formed back in 2005."

"The main purpose of this concert is to perform live for our fans or Bunkers and sing along with them," he said.

Bassist Pa'an explained that the concert should've happened last year but was put on hold by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"As the country enters its endemic phase and public concerts are slowly being allowed to take place, we feel now is the right time for some musical action and to meet with Bunkers again," he said.

The Bunkface! 15 Years Of Korang concert is expected to be a two-hour affair that will see the band performing about 20 to 25 hit songs from all of its studio albums.

"On the night of the concert, fans will be entertained with a performance that is synonymous with Bunkface, 'a punk rock band performing a rock show', with a fresher musical arrangement and at a more appropriate venue.

"This time the concert will be held at Zepp KL, an event space that has just been launched in Malaysia.

"It's an exciting place for a musical concert to be held, and we can't wait to experience the ambience when the concert hall is filled with Bunkers," said Youk.

Bunkface, which is currently in the midst of preparing its fifth album, will also be performing its latest single, entitled I Miss You.

Written and composed collectively by its members, the new tune represents Bunkface's appreciation to its loyal fans who have stood by the band since day one.

"Exclusively for concertgoers, they too will have the opportunity to listen to this latest composition of ours for the first time, which has not been released on any platform yet.

"This song talks about our musical journey from day one in detail about what really happened and how, and this song also acts as an appreciation to our fans who have witnessed everything," said Pa'an.

Talking about the band's longevity, Sam said: "There is no secret to our long-standing togetherness, the main lesson is don't rush, but don't give up and bring your passion wherever you go and in whatever you do because we believe hard work beats talent."

"We hope that concertgoers will be able to sing along to our songs during the concert night, and we look forward to surprising you guys!" he said.

Organised by Bunkface Productions with local event management company, Hitman Solutions, the Bunkface! 15 Years Of Korang concert is also supported by OctaFX, MyCreative Ventures, Penjana and Waka.

Tickets for the July 30 show had sold out within 11 hours of its launch but tickets to the July 31 show can still be purchased at www.hitmanlive.com.
