KUALA LUMPUR: Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher surprised many when he revealed that about two years ago he was afflicted with a critical illness.
He battled vasculitis, a rare autoimmune disorder, which is an inflammation of the blood vessels.
Kutcher said he suffered from blurred vision, poor sense of hearing and loss of body balance control which made movement hard.
The 44-year-old actor shared this in an exclusive interview on TV show Running Wild With Bear Grylls: The Challenge, aired recently on National Geographic channel.
"It took me more than a year to recover," said Kutcher who is married to fellow actress Mila Kunis.
In retrospect, he said he was grateful for being given a second chance to get back on his feet and start "living" again.
"It's always the case, we won't appreciate what we have until we've lost or almost losing it.
"At one point, I didn't know whether I'd get my hearing or walk again. But I was already feeling grateful that I was still breathing."
