KUALA LUMPUR: After being single for more than 35 years, evergreen singer and jingle queen Salamiah Hassan is now married to Australian-based Liverpudlian Gerry Hughes.
In a news report today, the 71-year-old artiste and her 68-year-old husband were solemnised in a ceremony in Tasmania, Australia today.
Salamiah and Hughes have known each other some 15 years, but only as ordinary acquaintances.
"It all happened very quickly. After having a heart to heart talk and considering our family members' opinions, we decided to take the plunge.
"Praise be to God, I'm very grateful that everything happened without a hitch. I'm glad to have met a gentleman after being a single woman for a long time," said Salamiah.
She said that she would be residing in Australia with her husband, but added that Malaysia would always be close to her heart.
Salamiah is also the mother of singer Atilia and her brother, Raja Ahmad Shah.
In her latest post on her Instagram, Atilia also shared the photo of the newlyweds.
