#Showbiz: Joe Flizzow's '16 Baris' returns with more surprises

KUALA LUMPUR: What started out as a simple idea to unearth local talents in hip-hop has now morphed into one of the most sought-after platforms to discover world class rappers.

Hip-hop maestro Johan Ishak, better known as Joe Flizzow, is back with his original production 16 Baris, promising more surprises for fans of the hip-hop genre.

16 Baris has even received the thumbs up from one of the godfathers of hip-hop, Snoop Dogg who praised the show last year for unearthing hip-hop's "unpolished gems".

Joe said that the new season of 16 Baris has the same purpose of finding the best hip-hop talents the country has to offer.

"Over the last two years, the hip-hop scene has given birth to a new generation of rappers and this is their chance to showcase their talents with the participation of the existing hip-hop community," said Joe in a statement today.

He also said that the show was an amazing platform to discover the "best of the best" in hip-hop.

"The show allows contestants the opportunity to be honest in their artform, and in true hip-hop nature, there is the element of only being given 16 bars to shine."

Joe added: "Every rapper new or established will have the chance to prove that he or she is the best. Every rapper must believe that he or she is the best and this show is his or her chance to prove it."

16 Baris has successfully unified the growing hip-hop scene and broken countless barriers.

"This show has defied borders going beyond Malaysian states and even other countries. It has spawned 16 Baris in Australia and even in Thailand. Knowing that hip-hop legends as Snoop Dogg and Lupe Fiasco follow 16 Baris is a huge testament to the greatness that the show has achieved," he said.

Joe also promised that 16 Baris will have more concerts in the pipeline.

"We plan to go on tour across the country. So, Malaysia this is your chance to shine and go for glory."

Auditions for participants are taking place from now until Oct 7.

Interested candidates must record a video of themselves rapping, post it on Instagram Reels, Facebook, YouTube Shorts or TikTok, tag it with @16.Baris (Instagram and TikTok), @16BarisOfficial (Twitter and Facebook) or @16BARIS (YouTube) with the hashtag #16BS3Audition and #16BS3Rappers, and finally fill up a submission form and submit the video.
