KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran rocker Datuk Awie hopes that whichever party forms the next government, focuses on the well-being of local artistes and restricts the number of foreign acts performing in major concerts.
Awie or Datuk Ahmad Azhar Othman, 53, said in a news report yesterday that many local artistes especially bands, felt "left out" as a result of the abundance of foreign acts having showcases here.
"Foreign acts are very lucky that we have welcomed them to perform in our country. However, there comes a time when we have to restrict the number of them, and now is the time," said Awie.
"We have many talents who are promising, be they soloists or bands. They aren't comfortable with the huge presence of overseas acts and need our support.
"I hope that the new government gives them all the support they need, and help them penetrate the markets of neighbouring countries. We have to look after homegrown talents first. Prioritise local acts!"
