KUALA LUMPUR: Many are impressed with singer Datuk Wan Aishah Wan Ariffin's transformation following bariatric surgery which she underwent four years ago.
In fact, the vocal powerhouse and Gegar Vaganza 4 winner has won praise from fans for "doing what it takes" to look slim and trim, and staying clear of short cuts.
In a recent Instagram post, 57-year-old Aishah admitted that the surgery resulted in her losing 50 kilograms, and even though she initially felt nervous, she took the "leap of faith" and triumphed.
"It has been a long journey for me. When I took part in Gegar Vaganza 4, I was very round, but look how I am today, after losing 50 kilograms. Flab to fab!" said Aishah in her Instagram post.
"Actually, my target was to lose 2 kilograms more. But many of my friends and relatives told me 50 kilograms was enough. What is important is, I am happy with who I am and I am also healthy."
One netizen Azman said: "Well done Datuk Aishah. It is always good to choose health. I salute you for being honest and open about your weight problems and for taking steps to be trimmer and healthier."
Another netizen Azrin said: "You are my role model Datuk Aishah. You have inspired me to fight the flab and win. No shortcuts and no quick fixes."
In April, Aishah said that fasting during Ramadan became more challenging after she underwent surgery in 2018.
She said that she easily became tired after every act of physical exertion and had to take long rests in order to regain her strength.
Fortunately, things went back to normal after a week.
Aishah was motivated to undergo bariatric surgery to "change her lifestyle" for her loved ones.
The mother of two sons felt that since she was in her 50s, she had to seriously take care of her health and lose weight.
After the Movement Control Order began in 2020, Aishah practised intermittent fasting and lost 30 kilograms in two months.
