#Showbiz: Yusof Haslam: Why was it kept a secret for 4 years?

KUALA LUMPUR: Film producer Datuk Yusof Haslam said that he was only informed by a friend about his son, Syamsul tying the knot with actress Ira Kazar in Thailand today.

Yusof said while he had no knowledge about the solemnisation ceremony between Syamsul and his second wife at all, he believed that his son was mature enough to make his own decisions.

However, he said he was upset that Syamsul had hid the matter for far too long and was not honest from the beginning when marriage troubles began between him and his first wife, actress Puteri Sarah Liyana.

"As a father, all I can do is pray for the best for my son and daughter-in-law, Sarah. Any parents would do the same.

"The only issue is that I feel upset, why was the secret kept for four years? Why couldn't he be more forthcoming with Sarah from the start?" said Yusof, adding that Syamsul could have avoided the emotional hurt suffered by Sarah and other parties involved.

"I cannot say more as this (the solemnisation) has already taken place. For me, if he had been truthful and came forward from the start, the problem could have been settled way faster.

No matter what happens, Yusof said that as Syamsul's father, he never held a grudge against him.

"I have to accept all these as fate. My only hope is that Sarah will be strong in facing these challenges.

"To me, Sarah has the right to do what feels right for her as Syamsul's wife.

"At the same time, I want to remind Syamsul to not neglect his responsibility as the father of his two children.

Syamsul and Sarah married in 2014. They are blessed with two children – Syaikhul Islam, 5, and Sumayyah, 3.
