KUALA LUMPUR: "I hope to stage gig shows in rural areas such as Jengka, Bera and Temerloh," says Datuk Ahmad Azhar Othman, better known as Awie.
The 54-year-old rock legend said this today, quashing criticisms that his band Wings only performed at concerts with highly-priced entrance tickets.
"This is also our effort to give back to society, especially our fans who live in rural areas.
"Performing in the rural areas will even allow my bandmates and me to play without much pressure.
"I'm done with doing plug-and-play performances. I want to do low-key shows where I can unwind, together with fans," he said, explaining the tour he intended to put up after Hari Raya Aidilfitri sometime in May.
Awie revealed that the idea cropped up after Wings held its Naga Keramat concert last October.
He shared this with reporters at a hotel during an event to announce the band's iftar programmes and a performance scheduled in Johor Baru on March 31.
