#SHOWBIZ: Wings to perform for inmates in Malaysian prisons

LEGENDARY Malaysian rock band Wings, led by vocalist Datuk Awie, is planning an exclusive performance tour for inmates in Malaysian prisons next year.

Awie shared that the band has been working on this idea for some time and is now seeking sponsors to help bring the project to life.

"This is a charity effort, and no tickets will be sold.

"We won't profit from these shows, but we need financial support to cover costs, particularly for the sound system and the musicians touring with us across Malaysian prisons," he told 'Harian Metro'.

Awie added that the Malaysian Prisons Department had  granted permission and final discussions were underway with the Home Ministry.

"Sponsors will also be eligible for tax deductions," he said.

As Wings approaches its 40th anniversary, Awie expressed the desire to give back to society, especially to those incarcerated.

"No one is born evil. We want to use this opportunity to offer words of encouragement, showing them they are still cared for," he added.

The tour is set to kickoff at Kajang Prison, Sungai Jelok in Selangor, with the aim of contributing to the inmates' rehabilitation and helping them reintegrate into society.
