#Showbiz: 'Polis Evo 3' rakes in RM16mil in 4 days

KUALA LUMPUR: In only four days since its opening in cinemas throughout Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei, Polis Evo 3 has already collected a total of RM16 million at the box office.

This makes it the highest grossing film directed by Syafiq Yusof during its first week screening since the Covid-19 pandemic, even surpassing the blockbuster movie directed by his brother Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan which raked in RM12.2 million.

The film's executive producer Raja Jastina Raja Arshad, who is also Astro Shaw and Nusantara head, said this proved that local productions were still local moviegoers' choice, especially those whose quality was comparable to international films.

"We're grateful for the support we received so far. With the school holidays, we hope more will flock to the cinemas to catch this action comedy movie in the coming week as this is definitely a production appropriate for the entire family," she said in a statement today.

Over the weekend, the cast embarked on a road tour covering the East Coast which included locations in Kuala Terengganu and Kerteh, and Kuantan.

This weekend, from June 2 until 5, the road tour will cover locations in Negri Sembilan, Kedah, Penang and Perak. The tour will then move on to Johor, Melaka and Singapore from June 8 to 11.

The new film marks the final big screen adventure of the fearless crime-fighters Inspectors Khai (played by Shaheizy Sam) and Sani (Zizan Razak). This time around, they confront a madman named Reza who threatens to set off bombs in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, and who used to be Khai's partner prior to his team-up with Sani.

Polis Evo (released in 2015) broke the record as the first local film to collect more than RM18 million at the box office, while Polis Evo 2 (2018) raked in RM23 million.
