KUALA LUMPUR: With tickets priced as low as RM58, East Coast Malaysians are set to have a rocking good time at the Kuantan Music Festival which will be held at Stadium Darul Makmur, Kuantan, Pahang at 5pm on Feb 24.
Specially for Malaysians from the East Coast states of Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan, the concert from 5pm to midnight is headlined by Indonesian rock kings Ungu, who are marking their first major concert in the East Coast.
The concert organised by Showpro Entertainment Sdn Bhd also features popular Malaysian singers Khai Bahar, Naim Daniel, Ara Johari and Nabila Razali, as well as Kelantan Malay dialect singers Eda Ezrin and Den Manjo.
It is a musical tribute to the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Sultan of Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and the 16th Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, and a "welcome home" for the royal couple who will return to their home state upon the completion of Al-Sultan Abdullah's five-year reign as King on Jan 31.
Showpro director Datuk Dr Siva Nair said that the festival would combine the best of traditional and modern music, and was also aimed at promoting tourism in Pahang, Terengganu and Kelantan.
"Ungu is hugely popular in the East Coast and their Majesties love the rock group too. They had a well-received concert in the Klang Valley in 2022, and now's the best time to bring them to other parts of Peninsular Malaysia," said Siva at the launch of the concert at Berjaya Times Square Hotel today.
Siva added that the concert was a "thank you" from the rakyat to their Majesties who won the hearts of Malaysians from all walks of life during Al-Sultan Abdullah's reign as King.
"Ungu will perform most of its popular hits, especially Tuanku's favourite songs. As for the other singers, they will sing five to six songs each, particularly their chart-toppers."
The concert's project coordinator Haniah Hassan said that the festival will also have a bazaar where vendors sell various specialties from the East Coast states.
"The bazaar will be open from 11am onwards and its stalls will include food stalls where the best of East Coast recipes will be sold," she said.
Ungu's vocalist Pasha said in a video conference that his band was excited to perform in Pahang for the first time.
"We want to thank their Majesties for being great ambassadors of Malaysia internationally, and we will definitely serenade them with the songs that they love most. We are busy rehearsing for our big day, and we promise to give our best," he said, adding that they will sing 15 to 20 songs.
Naim said that he was looking forward to the concert as he wanted to get close to fans from outside the Klang Valley.
"It is great to travel to Kuantan for an amazing new concert. Sharing the big stage with Ungu is also a dream come true as I love their electrifying performances," he said.
Ara said that as a "junior" in the music industry, she was overjoyed to be part of the festival.
"This is my first major out-station concert and in order to give my best, I am doing all that I can to stay fit, strong and healthy," she said.
Siva said that the concert's tickets were named after Ungu's hit songs, namely Sejauh Mungkin (RM58), Demi Waktu (RM88), Cinta Dalam Hati (RM98), Kekasih Gelapku (RM118) and Gegar (RM128). There will also be VIP tickets priced RM388, RM448 and RM628.
