KUALA LUMPUR: Amid positive reception of the Geng Subuh Macam Jumaat campaign, artist Alif Satar has issued a reminder against politicising the initiative, saying that the core aim is to foster religious devotion rather than garnering personal acclaim.
The 33-year-old singer, in a news report yesterday, said his effort in encouraging Muslims to perform the subuh prayer at mosques was not motivated by praise or recognition.
"Performing the five daily prayers is every able Muslim's obligation, and it is preferable to do so in congregation at the mosque," he said.
He added that mosques, apart from being a place where prayers are performed, should also be turned into a community centre, where everyone is welcomed, regardless of religions and political beliefs.
Alif's efforts have garnered widespread support, with fellow celebrities such as Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin and Beto Kusyairy endorsing the campaign.
What's more encouraging, similar campaigns are gaining traction in Singapore, Brunei, and the United Arab Emirates.
