KUALA LUMPUR: Actress Emma Maembong, a close friend of controversial actress Ruhainies Zainul Ilyas, has apologised to netizens for sending a "voice note" to the Wifi Sebelah Rumah star recently.
Emma said in an Instagram video yesterday that she should not have queried Ruhainies about claims made by Sarah Yasmine, a woman who recently claimed that she was in a relationship with Singaporean singer-actor Aliff Aziz since last year, and that Ruhainies incited him to leave his singer-actress wife Bella Astillah.
"My sincere apologies to all. I should not have interfered in matters pertaining to Aliff, his wife Bella and Ruhainies," said Emma.
Emma and her younger sister, actress Chacha Maembong were recently criticised by netizens for being "nosey" when they messaged Ruhainies on social media, asking for information about the recent controversy involving her, Bella and Aliff.
"Ruhainies and I are good friends, that is why I asked her about it. We often share problems with each other," said Emma, adding that she was not close to Bella but respected her as a talented singer and actress.
"When I messaged Ruhainies, I did not side with her or Bella, and neither did I say negative things about Bella. I just wanted clarification about what unfolded since March 8, when the controversy started."
Emma regretted that her "voice note" to Ruhainies ended up with Bella.
"I didn't expect this to happen. I wanted to meet Bella to clarify things but I have not been able to do so yet."
Sarah Yasmine recently claimed that she was Aliff's secret lover and uploaded an alleged conversation between the Singaporean star and Ruhainies on WhatsApp.
The names of Emma and Chacha cropped up in the conversation, when they both queried Ruhainies about Sarah's allegations.
Chacha allegedly said in her reply to Ruhainies that Bella's revelations about Ruhainies and Aliff to the media looked like an attempt to "exonerate" herself from blame.
Aliff and Ruhainies were caught for khalwat at her condominium on March 8, and a few days later Bella filed for divorce from Aliff at the Federal Territories Lower Syariah Court in Jalan Duta.
Aliff has refused to divorce Bella, whom he married in 2016. The couple have two children.
