KUALA LUMPUR: Television host Awal Ashaari has slammed a fellow celebrity for "naming and shaming" artistes who have allegedly worked with "pro-Israel" American brands.
He said in an interview with Harian Metro yesterday that the celebrity's actions could jeopardise the livelihood of her fellow artistes.
"This celebrity has listed me and my wife Scha as 'pro-Israel' just because we have been ambassadors to US brands.
"This is grossly unfair and divisive to our entertainment industry and I urge her to stop this," said Awal who has not worked with the celebrity before.
Awal added that the celebrity had also collaborated with pro-Israel US brands in the past and her attacks on fellow artistes were done via Instagram, a brand known to be pro-Israel too.
"She should realise that we all have families to look after and employees to pay.
"Working with US brands that are deemed pro-Israel does not mean that we are such.
"Most of us are supportive of the Palestinians but we express our support for them quietly.
"There is no one way to support Palestine, each of us is doing so in our own way, so please show us respect," said Awal.
"Not being vocal does not mean we are not showing our support for a humanitarian cause as important as that of Palestine."
