Western media spreads misinformation on humanitarian issues in Palestine, says Ramanan [WATCH]

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians need to be careful in accepting and reviewing information on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Palestine.

Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk R Ramanan said there was a lot of misinformation and slander spread by Western media relating to the oppression by the Israeli regime towards the Palestinian people.

"Many (Western media outlets) say Palestinians are terrorists, but we need to point out, are the children killed terrorists? Are nurses terrorists? Doctors? United Nation peacekeepers, are they terrorists?

"No, this (killing) is the brutality and cruelty of the Zionist regime, so we are gathered here for Palestinian liberation, let us pray for peace, stop the genocide in Palestine," he said during his speech at the 'Himpunan Pembebasan Palestin' rally in Axiata Arena Stadium here tonight.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul were also at the rally, along with thousands of participants dressed in white as a sign of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Ramanan also said that renowned Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi's nonviolent philosophy that emphasised on harmony could be used as an example in seeking out the best solution to the ongoing conflict.
