KUALA LUMPUR: Singer and actor Naim Daniel, 27, has filed a police report against a social media account user who wrote death threats against his parents at the Semenyih Police Station in Selangor today.
The user of the Instagram account @syxmzxk allegedly wrote: "If I see your mother and father, I will slaughter them alive."
Naim, whose full name is Muhammad Naim Daniel Baharin said, he was then called by investigating officers from the Nilai District Police Headquarters (IPD) Nilai in Negeri Sembilan to be interviewed.
"The individual's comments are too extreme. I can't remain silent, not to mention that the comments threaten my safety and that of my family.
"I was informed by the police that they have obtained all the information of the individual in question. So, I am submitting this matter to the authorities for further action," he said in a Harian Metro report.
According to Naim, the comments against him have strayed far off from the original context of an entry on social media platform X regarding the Blockout2024 boycott issue.
"Their comments are ridiculous and have nothing to do with what I had voiced out on X.
"Just because I had advised people to not be extreme in boycotting, it has come to the point of insulting things that have nothing to do with the boycott matter. I said that we should not be 'Ghuluw' (extreme) to the point of creating branches of sin when we try to do something in the name of good.
"In the end, I was said to have been full of myself. Some misunderstood my intention and used a different narrative to oppose me," he said.
Naim added: "If this is part of the way of #blockout2024 then explain to me, is it permissible to threaten, insult, slander, and utter profanities in the name of boycotting without properly finding out the truth?
"Alhamdulillah, I grew up in a loving family, applying the values of Islam and empathy towards other people and nature. I was brought up to think and be polite by both of my parents who are also Muslims.
"I have never ignored the misery or the tyranny experienced by the people who are of the same religion there (Palestine). I have never received any form of sponsorship from brands that support the accursed regime (Israel)," he said.
