#SHOWBIZ: I could have worked harder to popularise 'Sheriff' in Indonesia — Syafiq Yusof

KUALA LUMPUR: Sheriff: Narko Integriti director Syafiq Yusof has admitted that he could have worked harder to popularise the action-thriller in neighbouring Indonesia.

Syafiq said in a Harian Metro report yesterday that Indonesian moviegoers should not be blamed for failing to appreciate Sheriff.

Instead, it was purely his mistake in failing to "gauge the tastes" of Indonesian moviegoers.

"As the director, I take full responsibility for Sheriff's failure to win the hearts of Indonesian moviegoers.

"It is a lesson for me to strive to understand what Indonesian viewers want from our movies," said Syafiq.

Syafiq thanked Indonesian cinemas for allowing Sheriff to be screened in the republic.

"Indonesian viewers have complete freedom to choose the movies they want to watch.

"On my part, I will strive harder to make better quality movies which they can identify with."

Syafiq recently expressed his disappointment that Sheriff did not receive much support in Indonesia and was only screened in about 100 cinemas.

On another note, he was happy that Sheriff had just made it to Hong Kong cinemas and will begin screening next week.
