#SHOWBIZ: Producer Baldev claims 'Saazish' was sabotaged

KUALA LUMPUR: Producer S Baldev Singh is upset that the first local Punjabi film released by his production company Saazish might have been sabotaged.

He said in a Berita Harian report yesterday that Saazish had overlapping screening schedules with a Punjabi film from India.

Baldev, whose film company is Sri Saheb Production Sdn Bhd, said: "Saazish should not compete with any other Punjabi film as it follows the Compulsory Screening Scheme of Finas (the National Film Development Corporation).

"I was surprised to learn that a Punjabi film from India was brought in for screening at the last minute last week.

"The release date of that film was June 28 worldwide, but the release in Malaysia was postponed to Friday, the day after Saazish's release.

"I contacted Finas and they are trying to resolve this issue.

"I suspect someone is trying to sabotage my film by bringing in this imported film."

Baldev added: "At first there were investors interested in producing another Punjabi film next October.

"However, they are now worried about facing a similar situation as Saazish."

Saazish stars Kulbeer Singh, Avinder Singh, Amaan Singh Virk, Navinder Kaur, Paul Masih and Datuk Adi Putra.
