#SHOWBIZ: Catch Malay version of 'The Glass Menagerie' at KLPAC

KUALA LUMPUR: The Actors Studio Foundation's Bahasa Malaysia version of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie is currently being staged at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre until Sunday (July 7).

Directed by Boh Cameronian Arts Award-winner Christopher Ling, the play titled Perhiasan Kaca was translated by Marlenny Deenerwan.

The original play had catapulted Williams to fame and went on to win Best American Play (New York Drama Critics' Circle Awards).

This semi-autobiographical masterpiece centres on a family of three – a mother who lives in the past, a shy daughter fixated on her glass animals and a son who dreams of becoming a poet.

Though desperate for a better future, each escapes into their own personal "glass menagerie" to elude their own pain. Will they be able to break free?

Perhiasan Kaca, performed in Bahasa Malaysia with English surtitles, stars Tria Aziz, Aidil Rosli, Cahaya Jais and Azwan Ahmadi.

The 2-hour play with a 15-minute intermission will be staged today at 8pm, with 3pm shows over the weekend at KLPAC's Pentas 2.

There will also be a post-show talk on Sunday.
