#SHOWBIZ: Alternate Records and Universal Music collaboration promises a new era for Malaysian music

KUALA LUMPUR: Music labels Alternate Records & Talents and Universal Music Malaysia have inked a strategic partnership in the hopes of revolutionising the local music landscape.

According to Universal Music Malaysia managing director Kim Lim, the international recording company sees a need to work together with a local label such as Alternate Records & Talents, which has successfully established itself as a hub for new talents.

"This collaboration is important especially if we want to see a continuity in the development of various music genres here and thus create an impact in the industry.

"The partnership will enable both companies to combine our expertise and to further understand the demands of local music enthusiasts," she said at the signing ceremony between the two companies held in Petaling Jaya, Selangor recently.

Echoing her excitement was Media Prima Berhad's TV Networks senior general manager for film, music & content programme, Shahila Shah Harun, who said: "This is a strategic step in paving the way for local artistes to expand their influence and exposure."

"Both the companies have a lineup of talented artistes and we'll be providing our full support in terms of promotion, production and distribution.

"This is the beginning of a new era for Malaysian music," she said.

Rahmad Mega, Marsha Milan, Sonaone, Ernie Zakri, Bella Astillah, Ezra Kairo and Puteri Khareeza are among the artistes participating in the first project of this collaboration.
