#SHOWBIZ: 'Abang Adik' bags two MGGA main awards

KUALA LUMPUR: Local drama Abang Adik garnered two major awards at the Malaysia Golden Global Awards (MGGA) 2024 which took place at the Seri Angkasa Auditorium in Angkasapuri, here last night.

Its lead actor, Taiwanese-born star Kang Ren Wu, was named Best Actor while Malaysian actor Jack Tan won Best Supporting Actor.

Abang Adik, which tells the story of two undocumented men living in poverty in Malaysia, is a local film that depicts life in a hidden corner of Kuala Lumpur.

It revolves around the lives of two orphans, played by Jack Tan and Kang Ren Wu, who live without documents in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, an area famous for wet markets.

The setting of the film in the lesser-known area of ​​Kuala Lumpur adds to the originality and uniqueness of the narrative, making it an important script in the Malaysian film industry.

Meanwhile, the German film, Every You Every Me directed by Michael Fetter Nathansky, was named Best Film at the seventh edition of the awards.

The film also won two other awards, namely Best Actress (Aenna Schwarz) and Best Screenplay (Nathansky).

The New Hope Award was given to a film from Brazil directed by Marcelo Botta called Betania, while Best Director went to the two directors of the film, In the Land of Brothers, namely Alireza Ghasemi and Raha Amirfazli.

You Jenfeen, who performed brilliantly in the movie The Great Phuket, garnered the Best Supporting Actress award.

Best Cinematography went to Tojo Xavier for the movie Rapture.

The 2-hour MGGA 2024, hosted by Alvin Anthons and Chrystina Ng, also saw local celebrities Zizan Razak, Daiyan Trisha, and Bront Palarae serving as award presenters.
