#SHOWBIZ: A stage for street musicians

Karyawan president Datuk Freddie Fernandez said the effort was part of the association's efforts to help buskers, who appear to be marginalised in the art industry.

"There are a handful of buskers involved in Santai Seni@TAR who have made albums before.

"Karyawan is unique since we accept all who are involved in the arts, from singers and actors to street musicians.

"As long as they are creative, we welcome their presence as members.

"So far, 800 buskers have been registered as Karyawan members.

"At the same time, we also help buskers facing financial problems, including issues over venues and so on," he said in a recent 'Harian Metro' report.

Freddie and Blues Gang singer Ito Mohd were some of the guests present at the recent launch of the 'Bintang Jalanan' street music collaboration album at the location.

Freddie further said that Santai Seni @TAR has been happening over the past few years.

"About 20 buskers involved in this programme are also Karyawan members who perform in three to four locations in the DBKL area.

"It's a good opportunity for them because the area is also closed off specifically for the event.

"I hope this casual arts events will become more popular in the future, including cooperation with other local authorities such as in Selangor," he added.

The Santai Seni@TAR, which also features other activities and merchandise sales, takes place at the famous Jalan TAR every second and fourth Sunday of the month.
