#SHOWBIZ: Abdul Qayyum - passion for food and travel

DATA engineer and social media influencer Abdul Qayyum Halid may share his idol Khairul Aming's scrumptious recipes for TikTokers, but admits he is "his own man" too.

The top winner of the TikTok Awards 2024 said that he also enjoyed travel and would do his best to give his fans lots of travelogues in the years to come.

"I love going to interesting places — be they cities, towns or back-to-nature places — around Malaysia. It's always good to appreciate what your country has," he said at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, after winning Creator Of The Year on Aug 11.

The Sitiawan-born 28-year-old, who loves to cook, thanked his fans for supporting his culinary-themed TikTok videos, and dedicated his win to his biggest fan — his mother.

"Thank you so much for supporting my social media posts. Food, especially Malaysian traditional cuisine, is my passion," said Abdul Qayyum.

INSPIRING OTHERS

The Universiti Teknologi Petronas graduate shares traditional Malay, Chinese, Indian and Western recipes with netizens.

Abdul Qayyum, who began posting his videos in March last year, believes in inspiring people to pursue their dreams.

"I've learned lots of recipes from my mother. She is a very good cook, and she always gives me feedback on what I cook," he said.

HUMOROUS

Ashraf Jaafar (Acap), Tang Guo, Nicholas Lim Pinn Yang, Amin and Abid Othman and Aishah Rahim won the Live Creator Of The Year, Food Creator Of The Year, Shop Creator Of The Year, Education Creator Of The Year and Beauty And Fashion Creator Of The Year respectively.

The other winners were King Shah (Gaming Creator Of The Year), Amar and Anas Shahruddin (Sports Creator Of The Year), handicapped activist Izhar Idham and the environmentalist Lokohopunoh Group (Changemaker Of The Year), Yimotapir (Animation Creator Of The Year), Bella Astillah (Celebrity Of The Year), Agy (Video Of The Year) and Kanafly (Entertainment Creator Of The Year).

Grik-born Acap is well known for his engaging and humorous content, and became a Bigo entertainer in 2017.

He said: "In 2018 I became famous with my travelogue in Perth, and that was my first trip Down Under. I love comedy and my dream is to get to star in movies or TV series one day."

COCOA

Tang started as a food reviewer, but seeing the rich culture and heritage of her community, she has began to promote Malaysia's traditional food.

"I love the creation process of food. I'm especially proud of my recent video about cocoa-making which took me three painstaking weeks.

"I have to invest lots of time to come up with a food video, but I get lots of satisfaction in doing it," she said.

Pinn Yang, the founder of Good Foodie Media, features interactions with customers, product reviews, and local food-related adventures, all aimed at showcasing the best of Malaysia.

"I began my TikTok journey last year, and proceeds from my videos go to Yayasan Chow Kit. I believe in always helping needy children and one day I will set up my own foundation for that purpose."

ART

Amin and Abid, 24, from Sitiawan are twin brothers who share DIY content.

"From scraps to treasures, we are able to recycle the most random items into useful works of art," said Abid.

"Our biggest project thus far is helping to set up a chocolate museum in Jitra which is a collaboration with a Malaysian company there," said Amin.

ACTIVIST

Izhar Idham, 38, of Taiping inspires handicapped people.

He is a motivational speaker and was hurt in an accident 20 years ago and had to use a wheelchair.

"I'm inspired by Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi in my activism," he said.

The non-governmental organisation Lokohopunohgroup is headed by Uzair Emir, and his "dedicated dozen" cleans up the beaches and rivers in Terengganu.

"Our dream is a clean and green Malaysia and a country that takes pride in caring for Mother Nature.

"But our immediate aim is to make our home state the cleanest in the country."

The two-hour awards was created to celebrate and give recognition to Malaysian content providers.

A stellar line-up of celebrities and creators graced the stage, including Bella, Shaheizy Sam, Faizal Tahir, Khairul, Ryan Bakery and Sofyank, who presented the awards to the deserving winners.
