KUALA LUMPUR: "Hopefully this incident will be a lesson not only for me and my mother but also for all Malaysians," said singer and actress Nabila Razali.
The 32-year-old artiste, along with her mother Shamsidah Abdul Rahman, 58, were fined RM480 by the Alor Gajah Magistrate's Court in Melaka, yesterday.
This was concerning four charges of allowing and driving a car with an expired road tax and no insurance coverage in January.
"The car was a gift to my mother and it is still in my name. So, when there was a traffic violation involving the vehicle, I was also involved as the owner," she said.
Nabila added that the car was driven by her mother on the day of the incident and Shamsidah has since been taken to court where she pleaded guilty as the person named in the summons.
Nabila, whose full name is Nur Nabila Mohd Razali, urged the public not to sensationalise the matter which had attracted a lot of attention on social media.
"Once again, as the owner of the car, I apologise," she said in a statement on the matter.
According to the charges, Nabila as the owner of the car was found to have allowed her mother to use the vehicle with road tax that expired on Sept 29 which also had no insurance for a third party.
According to media reports, the offence was allegedly committed by Shamsidah on Jan 9, at about 11.50am in Simpang Ampat along the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin Highway (AMJ).
They are accused of committing an offence under Section 23(1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ) 1987 and can be punished under the same section and act, carrying a maximum fine of RM2,000, if convicted.
For the no insurance offence, the charge was presented according to Section 90(1) APJ 1987 and can be punished according to Section 90(2) of the same act, with a conviction carrying a maximum fine of RM1,000 or imprisonment for up to three months, or both.
