Regent of Johor says 'big things are coming' for JDT

KUALA LUMPUR: Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the owner of Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT), has promised a brighter future for the Super League champions.

In an Instagram post, Tunku Ismail hinted at major developments for the club, stating: "Big things are coming. If you think what I've done for JDT so far is great, wait and see what's next. Improvement in all aspects: commercial value, assets, infrastructure, history, and success. 2025 will be massive and mark the beginning of the legacy era."

JDT, established in 2013 under Tunku Ismail, have been a dominant force in Malaysian football. The club boasts 10 consecutive Super League titles since 2014, alongside multiple Malaysia Cup, FA Cup and Charity Shield triumphs.

JDT also made history in 2015, becoming the first Southeast Asian club to win the AFC Cup.

Currently competing in the Asian Champions League Elite, JDT are sixth in the East Region with eight points from six matches. The top eight teams will advance to the Round of 16.

Their remaining group stage fixtures are an away clash against Australia's Central Coast Mariners on Feb 11 and a home game with South Korea's Pohang Steelers on Feb 18.

Under Tunku Ismail's leadership, JDT have achieved unprecedented growth. The Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, a world-class facility, and a cutting-edge training complex with medical and rehabilitation centres, exemplify the club's ambition.

His focus on youth development, through a structured academy system, has further cemented JDT's status as a benchmark for football professionalism in Malaysia.
