#SHOWBIZ: Akon to hold KL concert on Nov 19

KUALA LUMPUR: Senegalese-American singer, songwriter and record producer, Akon, will be entertaining fans in Malaysia during his Akon The Superfan Tour Live concert at Mega Star Arena, here on Nov 19.

The enduring artiste, known for his hit songs like "Lonely", "Sexy Chick", "Smack That", "Right Now", and "Don't Matter", will also be heading to Singapore to perform at the Arena @ Expo (Hall 7) on Nov 20.

The award-winning R&B and hip hop star has released five studio albums and collaborated with a host of fellow artistes, such as Wyclef Jean, Gwen Stefani, Lionel Richie, David Guetta, Pitbull, Madonna, Wonder Girls, Whitney Houston and Snoop Dogg.

The concerts in both countries are exclusively organised by Jeeharris Entertainment, a company established by Singaporean singer and actor Harris Baba.

It was previously responsible for five major events in Sabah, namely the Borneo Mega Raya Fest 2023, Mari Makan Minum 2023 and Borneo Mega Raya Fest 2024, as well as concerts by Indonesian bands Armada and Ungu.

In a statement yesterday, Harris said: "Planning for Akon's tour began in December last year and took seven to eight months to finalise with my booking agent and Akon's management."

"There were changes in the schedule, but we eventually confirmed November as the date. This is a huge surprise and blessing for me.

"What makes this tour unique is that Jeeharris Entertainment is the sole organiser presenting the concert in two countries within a month.

"Akon will perform in several other Asian countries before Malaysia and Singapore, so it's a true honour for my Sabah-based company to be a part of this journey.

"Akon is also the first international star we're bringing in, making this event even more meaningful.

"It's been a blessing, and my team and partners have worked tirelessly to make this happen," he said.

Harris added that there were plans to bring even more international stars to Malaysia and Singapore.

"Akon is the first international artiste we've secured, but I'm already in discussions with other management teams.

"If everything goes as planned, we'll be able to bring even more artistes to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur next year," he said.

Pre-sale registration for tickets to the Akon concerts opens at 10am on Sept 18 and those who registered will be able to purchase tickets a day later, while general ticket sales will begin on Sept 20.

Tickets for the concert in Malaysia will be available via www.ticket2u.com, while Singapore tickets can be purchased through www.sistic.com.sg.
