KUALA LUMPUR: Sensational entrepreneur and influencer Siti Jamumall has been issued an RM1 million legal suit for her alleged act of slander.
According to a Harian Metro report today, event company The Dome BBK issued the claim to the 25-year-old personality, whose real name is Siti Suriani Wahidin, after she was said to have made a defamatory and libellous statement against the company via a posting on her social media account.
The Dome BBK manager Norhafizah Ahmad said that the company's legal counsel had already sent a Letter of Demand to Siti Jamumall after she uploaded a video claiming that the company had lied to and sabotaged her.
"We demand that she stops slandering us and deletes the posting from social media.
"She is also required to issue an apology within 48 hours after she receives the LOD, on a mainstream media platform or her social media account, and make a compensation payment of RM1 million for defaming our company," said Norhafizah.
She added that even if Siti Jamumall had already issued an apology and removed the posting, the company would continue to seek the compensation, since its reputation had already been tarnished.
"This should serve as a lesson for her, seeing that many had been impacted by her action, especially the staff members."
Norhafizah also added The Dome BBK had never sent a letter offering to sponsor Siti Jamumall's wedding or even offered to give a discount.
"We're in the business of renting an event hall, and never had any intention of making it a free wedding location due to the large expenditure of capital."
Meanwhile, The Dome BBK's legal counsel, Datuk Azar Irwan Arifin, said they had lodged a police report on Sept 3 and issued the LOD a day later.
"In our records, they had already received the letter on Sept 8, but we have yet to receive any response," he said.
Azar added that they were giving Siti Jamumall a grace period of another week for her to get back to them.
He also said that even though The Dome BBK was not trying to be difficult, this was the only option, considering the impact of Siti Jamumall's action which included a drop in sales for the company.
Before her wedding, Siti Jamumall was said to have gone to The Dome BBK for a discussion with an event manager to arrange for her wedding.
She was said to have made a few requests, including a sponsorship for the venue.
But after neither party could agree on offers or discounts, Siti Jamumall allegedly uploaded the video slandering the company.
