INDONESIAN actor, action choreographer and silat exponent Yayan Ruhian does not just travel to Malaysia for work, but also to visit his second child who is continuing his studies here.
The 56-year-old international artiste who has acted in Hollywood productions said he was happy and grateful that his son, Sidqin, 21, had chosen a university in Malaysia.
"Besides working, I can also come here regularly because of my second son, who is studying for his second semester at Universiti Putra Malaysia. He is majoring in a communications degree.
"I never asked him to come to Malaysia for his studies. My dream was just for him to continue his studies to gain more knowledge so he would be able to be successful.
"I'm grateful to be able to pay for his education, so I don't see why he should not continue studying. So when he chose to study here, I gave him my full support," said the father of three in a recent 'Harian Metro' report.
He added that he remained open to his son's decision since he was confident that Sidqin had thought long and hard on the matter before coming to a decision.
"I'm all right with wherever and wherever he wants to study, as long as he can live well and independently. No obstacles on my part since he came to this decision himself.
"I know he must have his own reasons to chose to study in Malaysia," said Yayan, who has been in the country for two weeks to see his eldest son.
The 'John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum', 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens', 'Beyond Skyline', 'The Raid' and 'Mat Kilau' actor will star in the new epic Malaysian action movie, 'Gayong'.
Directed by Faisal Ishak and produced by Sol Pictures, it tells the story of the late founder of Silat Seni Gayong, Datuk Meor Abdul Rahman, and has a production budget of about RM7 million.
Yayan said he plays a silat practitioner from Java named Wak Kesang in the movie and also serves as its action choreographer.
"For the character of Wak Kesang, I understand what needs to be done, but as the action choreographer, it is a big challenge for me since I have to train the actors in silat in a short period.
"Usually it takes three months to prepare actors with the action choreography before filming, but for 'Gayong', I have only a month.
"It's a lot of pressure as well, but because the main character of Meor is played by Beto Kusyairy, I have high confidence that the process will be easy and smooth.
"In a silat action movie, the main actor really has to know how to perform it well."
In addition to Yayan and Beto, 'Gayong' features Nabila Huda, Syafie Naswip and many more, with filming scheduled to begin on Oct 5.
