KUALA LUMPUR: "Yes, we are divorced and my idah period is over," said actress, Emma Maembong, who revealed that she and her ex-husband, Muhammad Shazli Azhar, had parted amicably.
Although aware that her domestic troubles were a hot topic of discussion on gossip forums, Emma chose to remain silent to keep things from getting worse at the time.
Because of this, Emma said that she still uploaded photos with her ex-husband on social media which got many people puzzled as to whether she and her ex-husband were still together or not.
"I tried as much as possible to keep my personal matters hidden even though I received many phone calls from media friends before this.
"Actually, the purpose of me still uploading photos with my ex-husband on Instagram was just to take care of our children's emotions so that they were not affected by this separation.
"I want my children to see that their family is still happy," she said when contacted by Harian Metro.
Emma declined to share further details of the breakup when asked as she did not see it as something nice to share.
"For me, this breakup is not news worth being proud of and that's why I took steps to remain silent and not tell outsiders or make any announcements.
"However, because I received your (media) call today, I think it's time to tell the public so that it will no longer be asked.
"I admit this marriage has not been an easy journey. There were many challenges that needed to be overcome," she said.
Emma added that she was grateful that her relationship with her ex-husband was still good and that both had accepted the fact that the divorce had happened.
"Even though we are no longer together, our relationship is still good.
"Each of us accepts this divorce with an open heart and with maturity. We also consider this challenge as a process to improve ourselves for the better.
"Our focus now is to raise our children with love. Even though we are no longer together, we will still participate in family activities together with our two children," she said.
Meanwhile, Shazli, when contacted, described the matter of finding a soulmate as God's secret and was accepting of all that has been fated.
"We can only plan, but when it comes to marriage or death, it's all in God's hands.
"Allah is the best planner. He knows what is best for us," he said.
Emma and Shazli tied the knot on Feb 20, 2020 and have two sons.
