KUALA LUMPUR: TV personality Martha Stewart has revealed she had an affair during her 29-year marriage to Andrew Stewart.
In the trailer for her upcoming Netflix documentary Martha, the 83-year-old business mogul reflects on her life, including her journey to becoming the first self-made female billionaire and her views on marriage.
Stewart offers blunt advice, saying, "Young women, listen to my advice: if you're married and your husband starts cheating on you, he's a piece of s***. Get out of that marriage."
However, a producer in the documentary pointed out that Stewart herself had been unfaithful. "Didn't you have an affair early on?" he asked from off-camera.
"Yeah, but I don't think Andy ever knew about that," Stewart replied with a laugh.
Martha and Andrew Stewart were married from 1961 to 1990 and have one daughter, Alexis, born in 1965.
Reflecting on the divorce, Stewart called it a painful experience.
"We were the first to divorce in my family, and we haven't spoken since," she shared in the trailer. "But I'm strong, and I've moved on."
The documentary also explores Stewart's time in prison. In 2004, she was sentenced to five months at a minimum-security facility in West Virginia after being convicted of conspiracy and lying to federal investigators.
Reflecting on the experience, she said, "I could've just been a miserable housewife, but I didn't let that happen."
After serving her sentence, Stewart spent an additional five months under house arrest.
She later described the prison experience as "life-altering" and "life-affirming" in a public statement, expressing her joy at reuniting with her family.
Martha, directed by RJ Cutler, will premiere on Netflix on Oct 30.
