KUALA LUMPUR: Pop icon Britney Spears recently opened up about her "marriage to herself" just months after finalising her divorce from Sam Asghari.
According to the Herald Sun, the 42-year-old American singer took to social media to declare her new nuptials.
In a video posted on Instagram, Spears is seen wearing a lacy white slip dress and a veil, not from one of her three previous marriages, but from what she describes as her wedding to herself.
The post came more than a year after her split from Asghari, her husband of 14 months.
Captioning the video, Spears reflected on the moment fondly, writing, "The day I married myself… Bringing it back because it might seem embarrassing or stupid, but I think it's the most brilliant thing I've ever done!"
Shortly after sharing the video, Spears deleted her Instagram account, a move she has made multiple times in the past.
While the account has since been reinstated, comments on her posts are currently disabled.
This latest post comes amid growing concern from fans about the singer's mental health, with many pointing to her sometimes erratic behavior on social media.
To clarify, Spears is not legally married to herself. Although she wore a wedding gown and veil, the act holds no legal weight under California law.
Her divorce from actor Sam Asghari was finalised on May 2, 2024, though they will not be officially considered single until December 2 due to the state's mandatory six-month waiting period following the filing of separation papers in July 2023.
