#SHOWBIZ: Foundation remains committed to veteran artistes welfare

Despite facing shrinking funds, Yayasan Kebajikan Artis Tanahair (YKAT) remains committed to supporting veteran artistes in need.

YKAT chairman Datuk Irwan Shah Abdullah, better known as DJ Dave, acknowledged the financial challenges, but emphasised that their annual support initiatives will continue.

"We at YKAT hope more people will join us in raising funds to support and protect the welfare of our country's artistes," he told 'Harian Metro'.

On Oct 26, YKAT organised a donation ceremony for 12 veteran artistes for Deepavali  at The Little India Fountain in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur.

Each recipient, including well-known names like Sathiya, Sow Yoon Loi, Rosnah Johari, Isma Aliff and Sundaraletchumi, received RM1,000 and essential household items.

"These artistes, who have coloured our artistic landscape for decades, remain relevant even today."

Many of the recipients, now over 60, have dedicated their lives to the Malaysian arts scene.

The event was also attended by YKAT deputy president Datuk M. Nasir, and trustees Dr S. Kanagarajan and Professor  Emeritus Datuk Dr Ahmad Zainuddin.
