#SHOWBIZ: New twist on Malaysia's biggest music show with 'Calpis OIAM'

CALPIS Soda is relaunching the legendary singing competition One In A Million (OIAM) after a 15-year break.

The new version, Calpis OIAM, returns with a fresh format and exciting prizes, cementing its place as the nation's biggest music competition and aiming to inspire aspiring musicians nationwide.

The grand prize includes RM500,000 in cash, a car, and recording contracts valued at RM400,000 — even offering the winner an opportunity to collaborate with an Indonesian artiste.

To top it off, Calpis Soda will give away one car to an audience member each episode, for a total of seven cars throughout the season!

This monumental comeback brings together two pioneers in their fields: Calpis, which first introduced its unique cultured milk drink in 1919, and Media Prima's OIAM, Malaysia's first reality singing competition, which launched in 2006 on 8TV.

Their partnership aims to deliver an innovative, audience-focused experience that goes beyond traditional singing shows.

NEW LEVEL OF AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT AND PRIZES

Calpis Soda, stepping in as the Executive Producer, has introduced several new elements to make the show more exciting for both participants and viewers.

Etika Sdn Bhd CEO for Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei, Santharuban Thurai Sundaram, emphasised Calpis Soda's commitment to lifting the programme to new heights.

"With the tagline Segar Rasa, Soda-p Suara, we are excited to return with a million-ringgit prize to find the one voice that truly stands out as 'one in a million.'

"Our goal is to launch the winner's career not only in Malaysia but also in Indonesia, helping them gain regional exposure with the support of an established artiste."

Santharuban further highlighted Calpis Soda's role as both a sponsor and executive producer, allowing the brand to shape the show in unique ways.

This includes offering a chance for home viewers to win one of the seven cars provided throughout the season.

"We're thrilled to make Calpis Soda One In A Million the most interactive music show yet, with weekly giveaways and engaging social media activities."

BRINGING BACK ICONIC MOMENTS

OIAM has served as a launchpad for numerous successful Malaysian artistes, including Suki Low, Ayu Damit, and Tomok, all of whom emerged victorious in the show's first three seasons.

The show has also featured familiar faces like Yuna, who have used OIAM as a stepping stone to further their musical careers.

Calpis Soda's revival of OIAM is focused on creating new success stories while honoring its past legacy.

Media Prima Television Networks and Primeworks Studios CEO, Nini Yusof, expressed excitement for the new season, stating, "With a RM1 million prize, this is set to be the most exciting music competition in Malaysia, offering talented hopefuls a stage to shine like never before."

She added, "We want our viewers to fully engage with the show by voting, attending live events, and connecting on social media. This season is all about creating joy for both contestants and fans, amplified by our weekly car giveaways!"

The competition will be hosted by the dynamic pair Haniff Hamzah and Fiza Frizzy, with celebrated industry legends Datuk Yusry Abdul Halim and Ziana Zain as judges.

Their mentorship will be crucial for guiding participants through their journey to stardom.

IN-PERSON AND ONLINE AUDITIONS FOR ALL

Calpis OIAM is open to solo acts, duos, and groups from Malaysia and beyond, welcoming all talents aged 15 and up.

Auditions will be held online and in-person, and are open to those not under recording contracts.

Online audition entries can be submitted by uploading a one-minute singing video on TikTok using #CalpisSodaOIAMTV3 between Nov 1 and 17, 2024.

The first open audition took place at the Karnival Jom Heboh in Angsana Mall Johor Bahru from Nov 2 to 3. Additional auditions will follow in various locations, including Sabah and Penang on Saturday and Sunday at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) and Hotel Atrium, Sunshine Central Penang.

Contestants eager for an expedited experience can buy a Calpis Soda Fast Lane bundle, priced at RM30 for 10 cans, which provides access to a faster audition process.
