KUALA LUMPUR: Oscar-winning Indian music composer AR Rahman, 57, and his wife, Saira Banu, 50, have decided to part ways after nearly three decades of marriage.
Saira's lawyer, Vandana Shah, released an official statement citing emotional strain and irreconcilable differences as the reasons for their separation, according to The Times of India.
"After many years together, Mrs Saira has made the painful decision to separate from Mr AR Rahman. "Despite their deep love, the couple has found that the challenges in their relationship have created an insurmountable gap.
"Mrs Saira requests privacy and understanding as she navigates this difficult chapter," the statement read.
Rahman echoed similar sentiments in a heartfelt post on X, formerly Twitter.
"We had hoped to reach the grand thirty, but all things, it seems, carry an unseen end.
"Even the throne of God might tremble at the weight of broken hearts.
To our friends, thank you for your kindness and for respecting our privacy as we walk through this fragile chapter," he wrote.
Their three children, Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen, have shown their support for both parents.
On social media, Raheema reposted her father's message, urging followers to "keep us in your prayers" and requested privacy.
Ameen and Khatija echoed similar appeals for respect and understanding.
Rahman and Saira married in 1995 in an arranged marriage facilitated by his mother.
The renowned composer, record producer, singer, songwriter, musician and multi-instrumentalist once shared that he had asked his mother to find him a "simple" woman who could inspire his music and support his passion.
