KUALA LUMPUR: Renowned music maestro Datuk M Nasir was conferred the Honorary Doctorate in Performance at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI)'s 26th Convocation Ceremony in Tanjung Malim, Perak today.
The award was presented by the Raja Permaisuri of Perak and UPSI Chancellor, Tuanku Zara Salim.
Expressing his gratitude, the 67-year-old icon, whose real name is Mohd Nasir Mohamed, described the recognition as a significant milestone in his artistic journey.
"This is a meaningful honour, especially from an institution that values arts education. It reflects UPSI's appreciation for my contributions over 45 years in the field," he told BH Online.
M Nasir also commended UPSI for its acknowledgment of the entertainment industry's evolution.
"It shows their awareness of the art world's progress. This award represents recognition not just for me but for all industry players," he added.
Regarding future collaborations with UPSI, M Nasir revealed that his company, Luncai Emas Sdn Bhd, has been a strategic partner of the university since 2016.
The partnership includes internship opportunities for UPSI students, with M Nasir serving as a consultant and advisor for the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts since 2021.
The ceremony, held at Dewan Tuanku Chancellor, Sultan Azlan Shah Campus, continues until November 30.
Alongside M Nasir, Lefthanded's vocalist, Datuk Nash, received a Master's Degree in Performance Studies.
Both honorees graced the event with live performances during the event's intermission.
