#SHOWBIZ: LOL Asia celebrates 15 years of laughter with 'The Big LOL Show'

SUPER comedian Kumar of Singapore is set to headline the anniversary bash of local comedy production house LOL Asia this December.

Kumar will be joined by some of the "who's who" of Malaysian stand-up comedy as well as promising new singer-songwriters who are carving a name for themselves in showbiz.

So comedy fans should get ready for a two-night extravaganza of comedy, music, and pure unadulterated entertainment as LOL Asia celebrates its 15th anniversary with The Big LOL Show on Dec 13 and 14 at Zepp KL, Jalan Hang Tuah, Kuala Lumpur.

STAR-STUDDED

LOL Asia chief executive officer Rizal Kamal says that this landmark show promises to bring audiences from across Malaysia and Southeast Asia to their feet with a star-studded line-up of comics and a surprise appearance that guarantees laughter, music, and memories to last a lifetime.

Aside from Singapore Queen Of Comedy Kumar, the anniversary celebration will also highlight Malaysia's comedic heavyweights Douglas Lim, Joanne Kam, Prakash Daniel, Brian Tan and Farid Azmier, each ready to bring their unique flavours of cheekiness to the big stage.

"But the magic doesn't stop with comedy alone. Rising music stars Saint Kylo and Claudia Tan will also set the mood with electrifying performances, while the spectacular, 10-member Mast Millennium Dancers will take it a notch higher with their stunning dance numbers a la Broadway," add Rizal.

Rizal says this celebration of their 15 years would not be possible without their passionate audience who have placed their faith, loyalty and trust in the LOL brand and platform curating local and international multi-format entertainment events over the years.

"For over a decade, our fans and well-wishers have supported us and amplified the energy that makes LOL Asia truly shine across Southeast Asia and in international markets like the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and India.

"The two-hour anniversary show at 8.30pm celebrates all that we did in 15 years."

ZOUK

Rizal co-founded LOL Asia in 2009 with Jack Jeganesan and their first show was in the Velvet Underground, Zouk Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Tun Razak and starred the late comedian Jon Atherton from the UK and Malaysia's Andrew Netto.

"For die-hard followers and fans, LOL Asia's inception since 2009 has seen the trend-setting entertainment platform sell over 500,000 tickets, curate over 350 talents across genres from all over the globe, and tour across 23 different cities in Asia and Australia."

Their milestone comedy show was 'Kings And Queens Of Comedy Asia' in 2010, starring Kumar, Douglas, Harith Iskander, Vir Das of India and Hung Le of Vietnam.

"We sold 3,000 tickets in that show which was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre."

Their biggest show was Russell Peters' 2012 and 2015 tour of Malaysia held at Stadium Malawati in Shah Alam. More than 16,000 people attended the show.

"As for our saddest moment, it was the closure of our comedy venue TREC Kuala Lumpur in Jalan Tun Razak in 2019.

"The five-year-old venue was supposed to be the biggest comedy hall in the region and they had hundreds of shows there."

Rizal said that their fondest comedy moment was Kevin Hart's 2018 concert in the Axiata Arena, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur which was attended by 8,000 people.

"As for our first musical concert, it was a Hujan showcase held in the Petaling Jaya Performing Arts Centre, One Utama, Petaling Jaya in 2021.

"Held during the time of social distancing, the show lasted four nights."

Their biggest music concert was that of South Korean singer Ailee in Mega Star Arena, Jalan Sultan Ismail in June this year.

"In Singapore, we sold 10,000 tickets for rock queen Ella's two-night concert last year."

THANK YOU

"This year, as a thank you, we will also offer an epic giveaway.

"Two lucky ticket holders will win a pair of passes to all of our shows in 2025 and that is a year's worth of laughter, fun, and unforgettable experiences to share with a different friend each time."

Rizal says that 15 years of LOL Asia represents more than just entertainment – it is a celebration of community, connection, and the joy of laughter.

"The Big LOL Show is our biggest thank you to fans who have made this journey unforgettable.

"We've brought together an incredible line-up to deliver two nights of unforgettable fun, and we cannot wait to celebrate this milestone with everyone."

LOL Asia opened Zepp KL in 2022 with a concert by rock legends Search, and it was the first post-pandemic concert by a local act.

It is for that reason that LOL Asia has decided to have its anniversary concert in Zepp KL.

"In future, LOL Asia plans to hold concerts beyond Malaysian and Singaporean shores.

"For starters, we will have an Ailee concert in Jakarta, Indonesia next year."
