POKE bowls are so Instagrammable — what with the colourful toppings of pink salmon and green nori flakes — and the meals are hearty and healthy.
A new player in the poke bowl scene is Nelson How (who also runs Majapahit), who has brought in Tail & Fin, a Las Vegas name founded by Karu Wedhas, a former chef at Nobu.
Nobu offers Japanese-Peruvian cuisine and Tail & Fin retains that mixture.
Wedhas personally crafted the sauces to accompany the bowls and, according to him, the sauces give customers a taste of food from different parts of the world.
"We want to bring healthy food to Malaysians. We brought this in because we know the Japanese live longer and they attribute this to their diet of lightly-cooked, if not raw food.
"Japanese food is already well-accepted here so I think it's not hard to introduce poke bowls to the market," he says.

How says the portions of vegetables and protein are bigger compared to rice to make the meals healthier.
"Between the two, there's more vegetables than protein too."
The proteins are either raw or slightly cooked and the rice base can be swapped with salad.
The bowls, which are bigger at the top and smaller at the base, are filled to the brim with ingredients. This also means there's more space on top for vegetables and protein.
A bowl set comes with green tea and miso soup, typical of any Japanese meal.
"We've had good feedback from customers. There are first-timers who told us they weren't sure if they could eat what's deemed a 'healthy bowl' but they found they could.
"It's a small step to get people to be more conscious of their food. If we can help them move in the right direction, then I think it's a good deed done," How says.
