IN the heart of Klang, a powerful fusion of art and peace is taking centre stage. The "Peace Enabled" exhibition, organised by Soka Gakkai Malaysia (SGM), invites visitors into a world where creativity meets compassion, and where the pursuit of harmony is celebrated through the voices of diverse artists.
This year's exhibition, held in conjunction with the fifth anniversary of the Ikeda Peace Park, not only showcases stunning works of art, but also reaffirms the park's significance as a symbol of unity and shared commitment to lasting peace.
The Ikeda Peace Park, a serene 792-square-metre haven in the royal town of Klang, stands as a testament to the values of peace and friendship that have been championed by Soka Gakkai Malaysia SGM since its founding.
But it's not just the park's tranquil grounds that draw people in; it's the spirit of togetherness and dialogue it fosters within the community. This year, the exhibition takes that vision even further by inviting Malaysians to explore the power of art and culture in promoting peace.
OF SENSITIVITY AND CREATIVITY
The "Peace Enabled" showcase is a vibrant celebration of 65 exceptional artworks created by 11 talented artists from around the country. These artists, who work in a range of media — from ink and acrylic to oil and digital art — reflect the diversity of Malaysia itself.
Among them are individuals who have overcome significant personal challenges, including autism, partial blindness and Asperger Syndrome. Their inclusion in the exhibition highlights not only their artistic achievements, but also the powerful sense of sensitivity and creativity that often emerge from adversity.
ART AND SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
From the sweeping landscapes that evoke Malaysia's natural beauty to the poignant portraits that depict moments of joy, the artworks delve into themes of happiness, harmony, and nature. They foster empathy and emotional intelligence, encouraging visitors to reflect on the importance of peace and the ways in which it can be cultivated in our daily lives.
As the exhibition continues until December 18, it's impossible not to feel the palpable energy that comes from such a powerful collaboration between art and social responsibility. Visitors can experience first-hand the remarkable journey of each artist, many of whom have already been recognised for their outstanding contributions to the arts.
With works displayed in local and international exhibitions, and collected by notable institutions and private patrons, like Genting Berhad and MRCB, these artists are not only shaping the cultural landscape, but are also pushing the boundaries of what art can achieve.
But the exhibition isn't merely about celebrating individual talent; it also honours the legacy of the Ikeda Peace Park, a beacon of peace and community. The park itself was born out of SGM's biennial Run for Peace event, which has seen over 360,000 participants since its inception in 2005.
SYMBOL OF HOPE
The run, which encourages people from all walks of life to come together and raise awareness about on the importance of peace, culminated in the creation of the park in 2019. It stands today not only as a physical space, but also as a representation of the shared commitment to peace that binds our community.
"The park has become a symbol of hope for the people of Klang," says Yap Chin Fah, honorary secretary of SGM's Selangor branch. "It's a space where dialogue happens, where friendships are forged, and where the idea of peace can take root in everyday lives. The exhibition is a natural extension of that, bringing people together to reflect on the power of art in cultivating understanding and unity."
As the anniversary celebration continues with this poignant exhibition, the message of "Peace starts with me" resonates louder than ever. It's an exhibition that doesn't just showcase beautiful art; it also invites all who experience it to become active participants in the ongoing journey toward peace. Through these incredible works of art, visitors are encouraged to look within themselves and discover how they, too, can contribute to a more peaceful world.
